This is an RFID-based door locking gadget. This door lock system will know how long the door is open and in this door lock system, only those people who register will be able to enter using their card. It uses a servo motor that operates with the help of Arduino. The Arduino board runs with complete programming that is stored inside it. By using this gadget, an owner can track his office and the place where he wants to let specific people in. It is also very secure. RFID Module, LCD Display Servo motor and Buzzer have also been used in this door lock system. When the door lock is open, the servo motor will turn on. The buzzer work will alert you that your card is wrong.

RFID is Radio Frequency Identification which is a fundamental and cheapest technology to enable wireless data transmission. Radio frequency Identification i.e. RFID is a non-contact technique applied in industries for personal tracking, supply chain management, management of books in libraries and at tollgate]. RFID technology has a lack of standardization and hence it has not been very often among the manufacturing companies earlier. RFID technologies are more proficient and more secure as compared to other networks. RFID technology is used in many areas such as public transport, industrial automation, animal identification, ticketing, inventory detection, electronic immobilisation, access control, asset and people tracking, and many more.

This gadget is designed with the help of an Arduino using a servo motor that pushes the gear forward and back. When we scan our register card or tag, there is a loop start of store programming in which the servo motor rotates 90 degrees, then the gear mechanism in it works, which locks and opens the lock. In simple language, when a card or tag is scanned, the condition given in the programming matches, then the command given in that condition becomes active, such that when the correct card is scanned, the open condition will match, in which the servo motor will rotate 90 degrees for 500 microseconds and the door lock will be open but when an unregistered card is scanned then the condition of the wrong card will match which will beep for 2000 microseconds. The Wrong card will show on the LCD.

Applications and Advantages

1. Security – The data on RFID systems are usually secure because it takes specialized equipment to read the data. This helps to maintain the lock system security.

2. Convenience – It only takes up a fraction of a second to put an RFID key in the proximity to unlock the security system. The procedure is highly convenient and fast.

3. Size – The size of the card is handy and the same as a regular bank card. Thus it is easy to store. Users have fewer chances of forgetting these cards when going to the place where they require access. RFID cards are convenient and easy to store.

4. Diverse – RFID locks come with different ranges of cams and spindle length that can fit a wide range of doors and furniture, making them suitable for any business or applications.

5. Master Card Functionality – Different kinds of locks can use one RFID key card to program. This saves the users from the mess of having different cards for different locks while allowing each lock to have independent access policies.

6. This system can be used in hostels for security purposes.

7. RFID based Security Access System is designed in this project. As the system uses RFID Technology based identification, it can be used to access secured areas like research centers,  defences sites etc.

8. It is a low power system and also the RFID Cards or Tags used are of passive type.
